Can you ride a trail bike on road without a chain guide?

i recently bought a 50 tooth sprocket for my honda crm250r 1991 mk2 . i had to take the chain guide off because of rubbing and now im not sure if i should ride it on the road without one.. until i get a dropper block made for me.
