Do boys get intimidated whenever a girl looks nice?

I'm just asking because I've noticed this with people. Sometimes when you are looking average or ok for a day, they tease you and mess with you, but how come whenever you look nice, they don't tease you that much or sometimes they won't even bother to look at you that much. Why are boys like this? Sometimes, they won't even speak to you.
