How would police handle this situation?

A husband killed his wife and children and police are called the scene. Do the police raid the house? Do they tell him he has a certain amount of time to come out of the house? What would they do if he comes out with a shotgun? Do they open fire and neutralize him? Do they tell him to put the weapon down? I have these questions for police academy.
