Why are some women mean or ignorant towards pretty women?

My friend is very pretty and the guys at work notice her,there use to be this woman who use to kinda intimidate her,and this woman said something like 'all the men are gonna love you' when she first started. Also other women have been kind of ignorant towards her,do you think its because they are jealous?
